Entrepreneurship Support

Mission Statement

The Center for Technology Enterprise will be a hub of technology entrepreneurship in Fargo-Moorhead and the region. The Center will provide pro-active, value-added support to startup companies to achieve the following:
  • Technology venture formation and growth
  • Platform for encouraging research and intellectual property development
  • Faculty Education and Development
  • Student Education
  • Financial Return
Objectives
  • To foster new technology venture formation and growth in fields that complement NDSU’s core technology research areas. The incubator program will provide opportunities to faculty, students, area entrepreneurs, and corporations seeking to capitalize NDSU’s intellectual and physical assets.

  • To serve as an extension of NDSU’s College of Business and College of Engineering and Architecture entrepreneurship programs. The incubator program will provide students with real world exposure to early-stage technology ventures. The incubator will also work with faculty to enhance undergraduate and graduate level entrepreneurship programs for those interested in starting their own ventures, or for those interested in working for such firms.

  • To provide a platform for encouraging research and intellectual property development with potential for commercial application.

  • To foster new venture formation around NDSU intellectual property which, if successful, will result in financial returns to the entrepreneur(s), the principle investigator(s) and NDSU.

  • To provide workshops to educate faculty on the process of technology commercialization and new venture formation. The Center will also provide an environment for faculty to participate in ventures supported by the Center, or to develop and pursue their business concepts.

  • To create formal linkages with the Office of Technology Transfer and provide faculty, students, and strategic partners with focused support in the areas of intellectual property protection and licensing.

  • To serve as a catalyst for economic development in the Fargo-Moorhead region, the State of North Dakota and Northern Minnesota.

  • To reduce the risk associated with new venture formation and improve the success rates of early-stage technology ventures by reducing start-up risks through an established process of support.

  • To focus on high value job employment opportunities for North Dakota and Minnesota University system graduates, and area residents.
