A new study shows NDSU's Research Park has a tremendous impact on the local and state's economy.
The study, conducted by Larry Leistritz, professor of agribusiness and applied economics, estimated the economic impact associated with various aspects of the park and NDSU.
Among the findings in the study:
- Total economic impact of construction projects at the park is $81.9 million.
- Economic impact of the construction of the park's anchor tenant, Phoenix International Corp., is $12.2 million.
- Phoenix's annual payroll for 165 positions is listed as $9.2 million.
- The company's total economic contribution to the area's economy is $50 million.
- The economic impact of construction of the Research 1 building is $14.9 million, and the anticipated economic impact of the center's construction is $54.8 million.
Also according to the study:
- A projected $100 million annual research budget at the university would mean annual outlays within North Dakota of $78.4 million and $234.9 million in direct or secondary impacts. The anticipated NDSU research budget for 2002-03 is $75 million.
- If NDSU reaches a $100 million research budget, the study said the annual contribution of Phoenix International, Research 1 and the university to North Dakota's tax base would be $9.3 million.
