Nisbet named incubator chair
Fargo, N.D., June 30North Dakota State University President Joseph A. Chapman and the NDSU Research & Technology Park today announced that Mark Nisbet has been named chairman of the Advisory Committee for NDSU´s Technology Business Incubator and Ronald D. Johnson has been named to the committee.
Nisbet serves as North Dakota Principal Manager for Xcel Energy, directing community, government and media relations in Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot. He serves on the North Dakota Department of Commerce Foundation Board and as a representative on the state’s Centers of Excellence Commission. In addition, he is a board member of the Greater Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation, Fargo´s Downtown Community Partnership, the West Fargo Development Advisory Committee, and the Fargo School Foundation Board.
Ronald D. Johnson, dean of the North Dakota State University College of Business Administration, has also been named to the Advisory Committee. Johnson recently joined NDSU after serving as dean of the Arthur J. Kania School of Management, University of Scranton in Scranton, Penn. He has also served in various capacities at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Texas A&M University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northeast Louisiana University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Both Johnson and Nisbet, along with other committee members, bring extensive experience to the Technology Park committee.
In his role as Advisory Committee Chairman, Nisbet will help spearhead ongoing efforts to build and develop NDSU´s Business Technology Incubator. New and emerging companies along with new ventures from existing businesses will lease space in the building, where they will have access to technical and research assistance from NDSU´s faculty, staff and students. Several incubator tenants are currently leasing space in other NDSU Research & Technology Park buildings until the Technology Business Incubator is completed.
One of the goals of the incubator is to foster development and commercial application of technology, creating jobs to diversify and grow the economies of North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. The 49,000 sq. ft. incubator, scheduled to begin construction in late 2005, will promote the development of new technology-based companies, while providing access to financing, technical support, market research, management consulting, shared office equipment and flexible physical space.
The Business Technology Incubator’s Advisory Committee will serve as an outside resource for the center´s clients, linking them to the business community. Other Advisory Committee members include:
