THE PLUS EXPERIENCE
To maintain a competitive edge in today’s market, businesses need employees who possess more than just technical skills. They need employees who have the business skills that allow them to adapt to industries’ changing needs.
The Plus Experience, a North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program, is a business and technology course that helps create these employees. It enriches the life and career success of students and graduates, and it provides businesses with team members who can produce industry-specific results quickly.

Who benefits from The Plus Experience?
This program is a series of courses geared to and designed by private sector businesses, targeting regional industries such as biotech, engineering and software development.
The Plus Experience courses will greatly aid businesses and students. Startups are the most enthusiastic supporters of this concept because these growth-driven, entrepreneurial businesses have the least assets available to train new employees. The region’s growing biotech, engineering and software industries asked us to develop the Plus Experience program and will be the first to benefit from it.
This eight-week course is available to students with at least two years of college. University and industry personnel will teach at sites relevant to the course material. Participating businesses will help determine the necessary skill sets.
The Plus Experience will target technology businesses in North Dakota’s metro and rural areas. Participating businesses will drive the innovative offerings, ensuring that students will gain real world knowledge and skills. This jumpstart program will enhance the preferred skill set of newly-hired employees, which will directly impact job productivity.
The Bottom Line
In a fast-paced environment, employees need both technical skills and business skills to add value to a company. The Plus Experience, an industry-driven program, prepares students to meet employers’ real world expectations, and gives graduates a competitive edge in the job market.
