Elinor Specialty Coatings honored at National Innovation Summit
Elinor Specialty Coatings, Fargo, ND, is pleased to announce that the company’s “MagnaShield™: Durable Sealcoat for Magnesium Alloys” was selected for a TechConnect National Innovation Award and will be featured at the National Innovation Summit and Showcase this week in Washington D.C. May 15-17. This is the second National Innovation Award for the company. In 2014, Elinor received the same honor for “Aluma45® Magnesium-Rich Primer”.
The TechConnect Innovation Awards identify the top 20% of submitted technologies as ranked by the TechConnect Corporate & Investment Partner Committee. Innovation rankings are based on the potential positive impact the submitted technology will have on a specific industry sector. Innovations are submitted from global academic technology transfer offices, early-stage companies, small business innovative research (SBIR) awardees, and government and corporate research laboratories.
Magnesium is half the weight of aluminum and easily available, yet perceived issues of flammability and very real issues of corrosion have slowed or halted its use in both military and civilian applications where its use could greatly improve fuel efficiency, reduce weight and lower costs. In addition to aircraft components, magnesium is commonly used in such diverse products as combat helmets, power tools and laptop cases.
MagnaShield™ is a low-cost yet easy-to-use one component spray-on sealer as the first layer protection over bare metal or anodized metal and can be painted with any primer and topcoat, broadening the possible applications of magnesium across industries.
It is a drop-in alternative for coating aircraft components and can be used on any magnesium components in other industries where lightweight durability is needed.
It is readily available, cost effective and high performing, a trifecta solution for increasing magnesium alloy use and durability and solving issues of corrosion. MagnaShield™ is in final stages of development and testing. TechConnect provides a place for industry and federal agencies to scout new technologies and find partners.
Elinor will be presenting their innovation on-site at the Advanced Materials Innovation Spotlight session on Tuesday, May 16, 2:07 pm, National Harbor 12 and exhibiting at Booth 7M on the showcase floor. This conference is the world’s largest innovation program featuring technologies from the physical and life sciences. To view the full program, visit: www.nationalinnovationsummit.com
